*Trigeminal Neuralgia is a condition of the 5th cranial (Trigeminal) nerve in which the nerve is impaired, causing sudden lightening-like jolts of pain to occur in areas served by one or more branches of the trigeminal nerve. The pain is usually experienced on one side of the face (or rarely, on both sides at different times). There is an "atypical" form of trigeminal neuralgia that is characterized by a somewhat lower intensity of continuous burning and aching. Either form of TN pain tends to be initiated by particular "triggers" such as wind, light touches, or facial movements including laughing, talking, or eating. The pain can suddenly go into remission, and just as suddenly return, adding to its mystery. TN is never "cured". However, this pain can be effectively managed through medication, surgery, various traditional and alternative treatments, as well as by identifiable physical, emotional and spiritual strategies.
